About Mt. Auburn, IL - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Mount Auburn is a small Christian County, Illinois village with only about 500 residents. The community is located at an elevation about 50 feet above the surrounding countryside, providing scenic views of 10-15 miles of countryside. Mount Auburn was founded in 1839 and was seriously considered as the location for the state capital before the government center was moved to Springfield from Vandalia. Early commerce in the area included a blacksmith shop, tavern, and two small stores, and the Terre Haute-to-Quincy stage route brought many travelers to the area.
There are very few attractions located in the Mt. Auburn area, although there are several interesting businesses that both visitors and residents might enjoy. Long’s Tavern is a local dive bar, and some of the local businesses that call the area home include New Covenant Performance Auto Repair, Tracy Truck Service, and the Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church. The Mount Auburn Picnic also has been held here every year since 1887, and it is held in the city park.
Found within a humid continental climate zone, Mt. Auburn experiences four different seasons. The spring is the wettest, and while temperatures are comfortable, severe weather with tornadoes is possible. The season leads into a hot and humid summer where high temperatures and humidity are common. Average daily highs reach into the upper 80s, and a reliable central air conditioner will be crucial to make it through the season comfortably.
Residents will enjoy a reprieve from the heat in the autumn months, as temperatures cool off gradually with the changing seasons. Unfortunately, these pleasant conditions won’t last long, as winter weather in Mt. Auburn is cold and moderately snowy. Overnight lows typically fall below the freezing point, but the right gas or electric furnace will keep homes comfortable and warm throughout the season.
